Member Expertise

Member expertise records capture what each team member knows and how proficient they are. These records drive the assignee suggestion engine and help project managers make informed staffing decisions.

Assign expertise to a member

  1. Navigate to Workspace Settings → Expertise.
  2. Switch to the Members tab.
  3. Find the member you want to update. Use the search box to filter by name.
  4. Click Add Expertise next to the member.
  5. Select an expertise category from the dropdown.
  6. Select a seniority level.
  7. Optionally add notes (e.g., "3 years of production experience", "Certified AWS Solutions Architect").
  8. Click Save.

A member can have multiple expertise records — for example, "React → Senior" and "Go → Mid-Level".

Edit expertise

  1. On the Members tab, find the member.
  2. Click the expertise badge you want to edit.
  3. Update the category, level, or notes.
  4. Click Save.

Remove expertise

  1. On the Members tab, find the member.
  2. Click the trash icon next to the expertise you want to remove.
  3. Confirm the removal.

WARNING

Removing expertise does not affect existing position assignments. If a member is already assigned to a position that required that expertise, the assignment remains active.

Verify expertise

Workspace admins can verify a member's self-reported expertise to add a trust signal:

  1. On the Members tab, find the expertise record.
  2. Click the Verify button (checkmark icon).
  3. The expertise badge now shows a verification indicator.

Verified expertise is ranked higher in assignee suggestions. This helps the suggestion engine prefer members whose skills have been confirmed by a manager or lead.

Who can verify

  • Workspace Owners and Admins can verify any member's expertise.
  • Regular members cannot verify their own or others' expertise.

Expertise and assignee suggestions

When you assign a member to a work item, SetGet can suggest the most qualified person based on expertise matching:

  1. The system reads the work item's labels (e.g., "Frontend", "React", "Bug").
  2. It matches label names against expertise category names (case-insensitive).
  3. Members with matching expertise are sorted by:
    • Seniority level rank (higher rank = higher priority)
    • Current workload (less loaded members preferred)
    • Verification status (verified expertise ranked first)
  4. Suggested members appear at the top of the member dropdown under a "Suggested" section header, separated from other members by an "Others" divider.

TIP

For the suggestion engine to work effectively, ensure your expertise category names align with your project labels. For example, if your project uses a label "Backend", create an expertise category also named "Backend".

Bulk operations

You can manage expertise for multiple members from the Members tab:

  • Filter by category — See all members with a specific expertise.
  • Filter by level — See all members at a specific seniority level.
  • Sort by verification — Prioritize unverified records for review.
