Notification Preferences
Notification preferences let you control exactly which events generate notifications and how you receive them. You can toggle individual event types, choose between in-app and email delivery, set frequency (immediate or digest), and mute specific projects or work items to reduce noise.
Accessing notification preferences
- Click your avatar in the top-right corner of SetGet.
- Select Settings from the dropdown.
- Navigate to the Notifications tab.
Alternatively, open the Notification Center and click the gear icon at the top.
Per-event toggles
Each notification event type can be individually enabled or disabled. The preferences table shows every event with toggles for in-app and email delivery.

Toggling a preference
- Find the event in the preferences table.
- Click the In-app toggle to enable or disable in-app notifications for that event.
- Click the Email toggle to enable or disable email notifications for that event.
- Changes are saved immediately.
TIP
Start with the defaults and adjust after a week of use. The defaults are designed to notify you of the most important events without overwhelming you.
In-app vs. email delivery
Each event type has two independent delivery channels:
| Channel | Description |
|---|---|
| In-app | Notifications appear in the Notification Center (bell icon). Real-time delivery. |
| Notifications are sent to your registered email address. Delivery timing depends on the frequency setting. |
You can enable both channels, one channel, or neither for each event type. Disabling both channels means you will not be notified of that event at all.
Notification frequency
Control how often email notifications are delivered:
| Frequency | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Immediate | Each notification triggers an individual email as soon as the event occurs |
| Digest — every 3 hours | Notifications are batched and sent as a summary email every 3 hours |
| Digest — daily | Notifications are batched and sent as a single daily summary email |
| Digest — weekly | Notifications are batched and sent as a single weekly summary email |
Setting the frequency
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Find the Email frequency setting.
- Select your preferred frequency from the dropdown.
- The setting applies to all email notifications.
TIP
If you receive a high volume of notifications, switch to a daily or weekly digest. You can still rely on in-app notifications for real-time awareness.
In-app notifications are always delivered immediately regardless of the email frequency setting.
Muting projects
If a project generates notifications you do not need to follow, you can mute it entirely:
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Scroll to the Muted projects section.
- Click Add project.
- Select the project from the dropdown.
- Click Mute.
Mute behavior
| Aspect | Behavior when muted |
|---|---|
| In-app notifications | Suppressed for all events in the muted project |
| Email notifications | Suppressed for all events in the muted project |
| @Mentions | Still delivered (mentions override mute) |
| Direct assignments | Still delivered (assignments override mute) |
| Global search | Work items in muted projects still appear in search |
To unmute a project, click the X next to the project name in the muted list.
Muting specific work items
To stop receiving notifications for a single work item without muting the entire project:
- Open the work item.
- Click the bell icon in the work item header.
- Select Unsubscribe.
You will no longer receive notifications for that work item. You can re-subscribe at any time by clicking the bell icon again.
Do Not Disturb mode
Enable Do Not Disturb to temporarily suppress all in-app notification popups:
- Click the bell icon in the navigation bar.
- Click the Do Not Disturb toggle at the top of the Notification Center.
- Select a duration: 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, until tomorrow, or until you turn it off manually.
During Do Not Disturb:
- Notifications are still collected in the Notification Center but no popup toasts appear.
- Email notifications continue to be delivered according to your frequency setting.
- The bell icon shows a DND indicator.
Notification sound
Control whether in-app notifications play a sound:
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Toggle Notification sound on or off.
When enabled, a brief notification sound plays whenever a new in-app notification arrives and the browser tab is active.
Resetting to defaults
To reset all notification preferences to the default settings:
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Scroll to the bottom.
- Click Reset to defaults.
- Confirm the action.
All per-event toggles, frequency, and muted projects are reset to the system defaults.
Per-project notification overrides
You can customize notification behavior for specific projects without affecting your global settings:
- Open the project.
- Click the ... menu in the project header.
- Select Notification settings.
- Override individual event toggles for this project.
Per-project overrides take precedence over your global preferences. Events not overridden fall through to the global settings.
Override priority
| Level | Priority |
|---|---|
| Per-project override | Highest — applies when set |
| Global preference | Default — applies when no override exists |
| System default | Lowest — applies when no user preference exists |
Browser notifications
In addition to in-app and email, SetGet can send browser (desktop) notifications:
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Toggle Browser notifications on.
- Your browser prompts you to allow notifications from SetGet.
- Accept the permission.
Browser notifications appear as system-level popups even when the SetGet tab is not focused. They include the event summary and a click action that opens the relevant item.
TIP
Browser notifications require the SetGet tab to be open (but not necessarily focused). If you close all SetGet tabs, browser notifications will not be delivered.
Best practices
- Start with defaults — the default settings balance signal and noise for most users. Customize only after you identify specific pain points.
- Mute noisy projects — if you are a member of a project for visibility but do not need real-time updates, mute it.
- Use digests for email — unless you need instant email alerts, a daily digest reduces inbox clutter while keeping you informed.
- Keep mentions and assignments on — these are the most actionable notification types. Disabling them may cause you to miss important work.
- Review preferences quarterly — as your role and project involvement changes, revisit your preferences to keep them aligned.
- Use per-project overrides — if a specific project is noisy, override its settings rather than muting it entirely. This lets you keep important notifications while suppressing less relevant ones.
